"A suicide takes two lives."
This is a “what could have been” scene from In The Rain. What if David had simply had enough? What if he was so distraught, so disillusioned with life, that even Peter’s kind words failed to reach him and change his mind?
Well… this would’ve happened. Peter would leap off after him, so determined to save David that all common sense was pushed aside. David’s expression changes to one of shock moments before he smashes into the water below and is knocked unconscious. Peter wraps David around himself and desperately tries to fight the current to get back to shore. But his bad ankle handicaps his ability to swim, and David’s excess weight only further bogs him down. But he doesn’t let go, even as they’re swept away in the rushing river.
Their bodies are found days later.
